Millions of lives around the world and indeed here in Uganda have been destroyed and continue to be ravaged by prostitution and human trafficking. We believe strongly that the lives of these people especially the women, girls and children that have been affected, abused and coerced into any and all activities related to by sexual exploitation and human trafficking deserve a second chance at life.
We believe that everyone in their position, power and capacity can contribute to the restoration of these lives and can play a very significant and central role in ending and preventing the occurrences of these evils their families, communities and ultimately the whole of society.
Help the Street Girl Uganda, is a Christian initiative established in 2007 and Registered as an Non-Governmental Organisation in 2008 to fight and discourage all forms of Sexual Exploitation, human trafficking and to extend rehabilitative and restorative support to the victims of the these social evils in Uganda. We currently operate in Kampala, the capital of Uganda and its suburbs.
We support the restoration and rehabilitation of victims of prostitution and human trafficking in Kampala and its suburbs through our Outreach and Rehabilitation programs and enable them acquire skills and knowledge required to undertake alternative dignified sources of livelihoods. We also support them to either start up or get employment through various Skill Development and Financial Empowerment programs.
We design, organize and implement various Awareness Raising and Sensitization programs for general public and for special interest groups and continuously rally as many people, ordinary members of society, institutions and organizations to support this cause through our Community Support & Resource Mobilization initiatives.
Through our community centred programs approach, we encourage, enlist and organise interested individuals into support-groups, which together with the staff and/or volunteers take active or lead roles in reaching out to, encouraging and/or supporting the restoration and rehabilitation victims of prostitution.
We also implement joint programs to leverage the expertise, human and other resources of various institutions to achieve joint objectives through Strategic Partnerships and through Beneficiaries’ Projects, we organise former victims into groups that undertake income generating activities primarily to answer the challenge of unemployment.
We strongly believe that the greatest capital and strength to fight prostitution, sex trafficking and to restore the lives of their victims primarily lies with each and every member of society and of the community, right where they are. We know that if everyone in their place and capacity contributed themselves in the form of their passion, time, skills and expertise, experience and connections and any other kind of resource they may have, that the human, social and financial and any other capital jointly amassed would more than suffice to end prostitution in all its forms and restore all the victims and affected people.
Therefore through our 1000-hands initiative we are enlisting and organising as many ordinary people to contribute whatever resource they may have in their capacity towards fighting these indignifying social evils. We are also seeking to ally with as many communities such as Parishes and Church communities, student and school communities, professional and civil communities among others as Support Groups to actively support and be part of our rehabilitation and awareness raising programs.
